The fifth annual Social Inequalities in Ageing (SIA) Network Workshop was held in Stockholm at Hesselby Slott on 22-23 September organised by Pernilla Alencar Siljehag and Johan Fritzell (PI). Researchers from Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden participated.

The main activity during the workshop was the presentation of ongoing research by junior researchers with ample time devoted to comments and lively discussions. Manuscripts were circulated in advance, and each presentation was discussed by both a junior and a senior researcher.

One session was devoted to discussions on the theme “Genes, Environment, and Health Inequalities”, featuring presentations by Malin Ericsson (Karolinska Institutet) and Marja Jylhä (Tampere University).

A key aim of the network, in addition to capacity building, is to foster Nordic research collaboration. Rikke Lund (University of Copenhagen) presented a short paper addressing social inequalities in informal caregiving to initiate discussions on a future Nordic research proposal.

Louise Scheel Thomasen was invited to present the Nordic Welfare Centre’s ongoing projects and its work to support Nordic cooperation on ageing. Together with her, we also discussed the possibility of organising a webinar next year focusing on informal care.
